Erste Test-QSO's mit KP4AO wurden auf 70cm gemacht. Es wurde dort nur mit 50W gesendet !! An den eigentlichen Aktivitätstagen steht dann eine 500W-PA zur Verfügung , so dass wohl jeder , der eine einfache 70cm-Antenne auf den Mond richten kann , die Station hören kann. Auch nur mit Transceiver solo sind bereits erste QSO's gelaufen!

Hi all,

Angel, WP3R, has asked me to forward the information that on Monday,
March 22, the Arecibo Observatory Amateur Radio Club will again be
looking for EME contacts on 432.045 MHz. The callsign is KP4AO, the
locator is FK68oi, and the Monday window is between about 2100 and 2330
UTC. They will again be using both CW and SSB.

PS: Several have asked me whether there would be any JT65 operation. As
far as I know, the answer is NO -- at least for this session.

Please remember, JT65 is a Weak Signal mode. The Arecibo signal is not
weak! ... for any normally EME-capable station, in the limited time
window they can work many more stations using CW or SSB than could be
worked with the much slower JT65 mode. Possibly by the time of the
planned April session there will be provision for some JT65 contacts.

Der erste Tag war im Prinzip nicht optimal , wir hatten ein wesentlich besseres Signal erwartet. DL3HRH und ich haben hier schnell profisorisch eine 37el-Yagi installiert , aus Zeitgründen ohne VV. Das Signal von KP4AO war im QSB max. S1. Man hat dort aber nur mit ca. 25W ( !! ) an der Antenne gearbeitet , weil die PA defekt war. So ein Projekt und kein Ersatz ! Wenn alles klappt soll heute mit 400W gearbeitet werden.

Insgesamt auf meiner Seite zu hastig vorbereitet. Erst als die Sonne untergegangen war konnte man den Mond sehen. DL3HRH stellte sich hinter die Antenne und sah , dass die Richtung überhaupt nicht stimmt. Also Problem am Rotor erkannt. Am Sonntag arbeitete KP4AO dann mit voller Leistung in CW und hatte das beste Signal von allen 3 Tagen. Schnell die 300W-Trs.-PA angeschlossen ...........und zerschossen , sri. Das war's. Aber trotzdem zu zeitig aufgegeben. Es haben OM's mit kleiner Leistung und kleiner Antenne doch geschafft , Gratulation. Vielleicht gibt es aber eine Wiederholung. Ein bißchen Glück bei dem pileup gehörte natürlich auch dazu. Interessant war's trotzdem.

Hello to all,

I'm home again, but not yet unpacked and re-organized...

Many thanks to all stations we worked from KP4AO -- and our apologies to
the many more who called without completing a QSO. The Arecibo
telescope's short moon windows were frustrating for all, ourselves
included.

The "wall" of stations calling was simply incredible. A rough estimate
suggests that we may have worked something like 20% of the callers
potentially workable on SSB, 10% of those workable on CW, and only a few
percent of those workable on JT65. I guess we'll have to do it again, in
due course...

From memory: our log shows nearly 240 completed QSOs with some 57 DXCC
entities, in a total of 8 operating hours. Later, when I have the log in
front of me and get caught up at home, I'll be able to report breakdowns
of SSB, CW, and JT65B QSOs and say something about the QSO rates in each
mode.

We made recordings of the whole 432 MHz EME sub-band for most of the
time KP4AO was on the air. In due course it will be possible to "tune the
band" carefully, many times, picking out callsigns. If/when this is done,
I'll be happy to post a list of received callsigns.

Here's a request for all:

1. If you worked us with a setup significantly smaller than is normally
required for EME, please send me a short note describing your antenna,
receiver, and Tx power.

2. If you copied us with a small setup, please send me details on your
antenna and receiver.

I know we worked and were heard by some pretty small setups, and I'd like
to document some of them for a write-up in QST.

Das Event mit KP4AO soll im April 2011 wiederholt werden , möglicherweise auf 23 UND 70cm. Alle großen Schirme der Welt sind aufgerufen an dieser Aktivität teilzunehmen. Könnte also sehr interessant werden. Keine Angst wer nur eine Antenne und nicht viel Leistung hat , man hat damals bewusst auch auf leise Signale gehört!!
